Aim of this study was to identify and isolate pure culture of the local strains of enthomophatogenic bacteria for potential use against harmful insects circulating in Mongolia. Specific study objectives included identification of local strains of enthomophatogenic bacteria and fungi against harmful insects widespread in forest biocenoses of Mongolia, isolation of bacterial and fungal pure culture, and confirmation of strains by PCR. The study used basic microbiological methods and PCR. As a result of this study, local strains of Bacillus thuringiensis were identified and screened, and 8 strains with different morphological characteristics were tested by PCR. A field experiment was carried out to infect Ocneriadispar Linn larvae, one of the most widely spread forest harmful insects, with the selected strains confirmed by PCR. Four of the confirmed strains were studied by RELF analysis. It has been found that N1 strain contains Cry1 Ac gene coding for the secretion of toxin similar to our positive control, and М17 strain contians Cry1 Aа gene. Overall, four local strains of Bacillus thuringiensis have Cry1 gene coding for crystal-forming toxin, and their biological activity against Ocneriadispar Linn larvae was 100%.М16 and N1 strains had nucleotide sequence not elsewhere reported. Therefore, these strains could be unreported new strains.
